Creating Sacred Space
Having a designated sacred space nourishes the spirit. It enables one to rest and meditate in a carefully planned, aesthetically pleasing environment. Sacred space can be small or large; it may be a favorite chair, an entire room, or a quiet corner. The idea is not how it's made, but how it is put to use. Creating a sacred space may be as simple as gathering some favorite objects to display as a collection. Use groups of items that have special meaning, like a grouping of gifts from beloved friends. Other ideas might be painting the space in a pleasing color, hanging pictures, or setting up soft music to play there. The important thing is that you have a niche to call your own that is beautiful to you. It's important to set boundaries as to who can use your sacred space. Honor it by limiting the number of people who use it, as they could possibly leave their negative energy around it. Keep it clear of clutter, especially the surfaces like table tops, to keep it inviting and pleasing to the eye. Use the sacred space often to honor it.
David Malin's e-book, Heal Thy Self, explains the importance of having sacred space. In the book, readers learn the importance of self-reflection in their quest for optimal well-being. Having a special place to pray, think, or meditate nourishes the soul and allows the body to begin to heal.
