Grounding the Spirit: An Overview
Being grounded is being present, ‘being here now’, being in one’s body, being connected to the earth, being aware of oneself and one’s surroundings, which is being consciously present. When grounded, it is difficult to be "in denial" and pretend something is a certain way versus as it really is. It is much more difficult to lie to oneself when grounded.
A tree is grounded and trees with very deep roots into the earth are even more grounded. A mountain is grounded. The ocean and lakes are all well grounded. Human beings are rarely grounded. When we say somebody has their "head in the clouds" or is "clueless" as to what is happening around them, we know that person is not grounded. People are sometimes grounded when engaged in something important to them which requires a strong ‘presence of being’.
Those that can see or palpate the electromagnetic or auric field around a person can perceive ring-like regions that are present when one is grounded. These exist in the physical layer around the hips, in the emotional layer around the knees, in the mental layer around the feet, and in the spiritual layer about to 28 inches (72 cm) beyond the feet.
There is some increase in the energy in these regions when one takes a deep breath to become more centered or present. Or if one visualizes oneself as being like a solid tree with roots penetrating deep into the ground, these regions will become more energized. However, in either of the above cases, the results are only temporary. To have more lasting effect, or to become more permanently grounded there are specific techniques that can be done. This involves connecting with one’s spiritual source energy or one’s own vital life-force, which is the chakra(s) present/available in one’s spiritual body, and then directing this energy to the specific grounding regions for each of the four bodies (physical, emotional, mental and spiritual).
Being grounded is the very first step in self-healing, for when we are grounded we are more aware, and we need this awareness to know where we need healing and to see more clearly our issues. This allows us to be more specific in our self-healing process, for the more specific we are, the more effective we can be in our healing. If we are going to spend the time and energy to work on ourselves, we might as well be as effective as possible and thus most efficient with our time.
